Our furry friends are more than just pets, they’re family, so for this year’s National Love Your Pet Day, we grabbed a chat with Dr. Grewal to share a few tips on creating the best, luxe lives for our tiny teammates!

PET TRAVEL HAS NOW BECOME A NORMAL LUXURY. HOW DO WE PREPARE OUR PET FOR AN INTERNATIONAL TRIP?
Ensure that you have all the proper paperwork needed. Every country has it's own requirements as far as vaccinations, rabies titer, ectoparasite preventative, microchip, etc. One small mistake can cause your animal to be quarantined or refused entry. I leave it up to the clients to do their due diligence to find out what the destination needs. I am accredited by the USDA to fill out the paperwork and health certificate. So make sure the vet you go to is USDA accredited. Last but not least, ensure pets are comfortable during the trip. If it's a long trip and they have anxiety make sure you have some sort of anti-anxiety meds and treats/toys to keep them happy during the trip.
DO YOU SUGGEST PREMIUM PET PRODUCTS WHEN IT COMES TO SKINCARE AND DIET OR DOES PRICE NOT DICTATE QUALITY?
I don't think it is necessary to splurge on pet products that make exaggerated claims. A commercial diet that is balanced for an age group and doesn't cause any health issues or signs should be sufficient. I am not opposed to giving pets organic natural ingredient created diets but the former may be sufficient. As far as the skin any sort of commercial Omega-3 EFA and hypoallergenic shampoo should be sufficient as well.
HAVE YOU HEARD OF ANIMAL MESSAGES AND YOGA? ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL TREATMENT OR EXERCISES TO KEEP OUR PETS IN TOP SHAPE?
Yes physical rehabilitation is an important part of treating any pets with musculoskeletal disorders as it is in people. There are certain techniques such as hydrotherapy, acupuncture, cold laser, range of motion, muscle manipulation and massage that can be incorporated to aid recovery in pets suffering from these conditions. Daily leash walking is also important for pets.
WHEN PET PARENTS ARE AWAY FROM THE HOME FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME WOULD YOU OPT FOR AN ANIMAL HOTEL? IF SO, WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Depends on the animal hotel but there are a lot of them who provide 24/7 service. Always look into the establishment's reviews and credibility to see if they will make sure your pet is taken care of. There are also certain apps that allow you to hire people to take care of your pet and give them undivided attention.
